K23, Sangal move to 1

HEET and FANTASY are now one loss away from being sent home after falling to the 0-2 pool.

K23 and Sangal both joined the 1-1 pool at the IEM Road to Rio Europe RMR with 16-13 and 16-12 victories over HEET and FANTASY, respectively.

The third round of matches in Malta will take place on Thursday, with K23 and FANTASY both fighting for their tournament lives as they currently sit with an unenvious 0-2 record.

Sangal's performance looked far more improved compared to their 3-16 showing versus BIG on Tuesday. Kornél "⁠kory⁠" Szedlár was particularly more potent, averaging a 1.28 rating and 20-18 K-D — a noticeable spike in form compared to his lacklustre 0.45 rating in their opening matchup versus the Germans.

xsepower was a step above the rest in his team's win on Dust2, with a 1.46 rating and 89 ADR

The action between HEET and K23 played out on Dust2, the Russians coming out on top of the initial skirmish to post a 3-1 lead on the CT-side. K23 doubled down as the half went on, brushing aside their competition thanks to superior firepower and utility usage to press their advantage and lead 10-5 by the interval.

The back-and-forth nature seen at the start of the map reared its head once again at the beginning of the second half, with the two teams exchanging rounds to-and-fro to gift the Russians a 13-8 advantage. A 1vs1 by Aurélien "⁠afro⁠" Drapier served to keep the Frenchmen in the game, the side winning four more rounds on the bounce to bring the deficit to within two. Alas, K23 didn't drop the ball when all was said and done, getting the job done when it mattered to close things out 16-13 to progress to the 1-1 pool of the event.

Sangal and FANTASY went to Overpass to get their second best-of-one of the event underway, with Robin "⁠ScrunK⁠" Röpke's men instantly getting the better of their foes to go up 4-0 on the CT-side. While FANTASY soon answered back with four rounds of their own, they couldn't stop Sangal from getting back on the saddle, the European mixture going on to lead comfortably at the side swap, 10-5.

FANTASY launched their comeback attempt at the onset of the second half, a stalwart defense allowing them to lead for the first time of the map, 11-10. This resurgence in form came too little, too late for FANTASY, though; Sangal went on to win six of the next seven rounds to lock in Overpass 16-12 and send their opponents to the 0-2 pool.
